ALS:  Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
ALS:  "A Love Story" - Laura Jhaveri
My lovely wife pointed out a fact I had missed:  ALS has shown our family more love than ever.  I started to think about her words and realized she was right.  I am feeling more love from family & friends since my diagnosis and certainly after my retirement.

ALS is a love story!  What a fabulous way to look at life, thanks Laura, you are my rock and I can't do this without you.

Here is a quick review of all the amazing people that have become my life as a result of my ALS.
To all of you I send out a big Thank-you!

Lori Davis, teaches me how to play Cribbage.  She spends time with me every Monday.  We talk about all sorts of things and I love it!

ALS is a lonely disease.  Why? Because I can't move without help.  Once I am put in a chair or bed, that's where I'll stay until moved again.

I find myself alone often.  Not complaining, it's just the way it is.  Like I said, lonely.

That is why I LOVE company.  Just to talk or watch a movie.

My new hero:  Steve Stern.  Former pastor now challenged with ALS.  He is showing me the way when I lose sight of the path.

His wife, Bo, is another gem!  Talk about the energizer bunny.  She is a dynamo and has the best blog: www.bostern.com

Finally we end the love story in my ... bathroom.

This picture requires explanation, trust me, it is an act of LOVE.

Monica and Will Bins, friends of ours came over and solved a huge problem for me.

My shower has a 6" step and is something I can't get my leg to go over.  Also there was a constant fear of falling while in the shower.  Water+soap+ALS - not a good combo.

Monica and Will designed and made a ramp system for the shower. I now sit in the chair and safely get shined and buffed!

Wow, what a gift!!

John 15:12
This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

I must admit, there were many highlights at the Gala. Three in particular: Meeting Steve, pictures with three gorgeous Stern ladies and your (Bo's) speech! You made the evening!

Akhil, good words my friend, keep up the good fight and may God bless you richly for doing so. My father also has ALS and apparently you share the same doctor small world. Steve Stern is a great guy as well and a living inspiration for those battling any kind of illness.

Peace be with you,
Trevor Cox

Trevor, like your dad, ALS battles with you daily. Not a minute passes when you forget about the illness. However, each reminder points me to God's grace! While others may sink, I keep floating.

Jesus says, "You want to walk on water? Come out of the boat Akhil! Get uncomfortable. Let Me show you I am God!"

ALS iss uncomfortable, I am out of the boat. Now God is showing me who He is!!

Thanks for your words!
Akhil

Hey Akhil, you are truly an inspiration. I met you at the Golden Phoenix exercise in San Diego a few years back. With Clarence and IPS. You are still a light that shines! My best to you and your wonderful support that you have! Take care, Kim

Thank you for the kind remarks my friend, you and your family are heroes to me as well. It is a great collection of friends and love that are surrounding you - you are blessed and I love the shower chair!

I spent the day with a friend who challenges me with scripture memorization. He is a rock star in this area, I am always amazed at his ability to retain and memorize. Today we were in John and talking about the blind man Jesus healed. Sometimes the way the stories are written you wonder if Jesus really even paid much attention to the person he was healing. Today I noticed how Jesus was teaching the disciples while he was preparing the mud to anoint the eyes of the blind man. Puts the mud on his eyes, anoints him and then tells the blind man to go to the pool of Siloam which means sent, and wash. John 9 Jesus was telling his disciples we need to work while it is still light...while he is preparing to heal this blind bystander. I'm sure that's not how it plays out in real time, when The Lord of the Universe anoints you you have to know he cares and is taking time with you personally.

It's not his sin or his parents sin. The prevailing understanding of that time and still lingers today is that somehow this blind guy deserved what he had. It must be human nature to pin the blame on someone. I've had to work through that thought process, it was a good exercise that left me knowing a new His amazing love for me.

Akhil, I see the light of Christ shinning through you and I know it is leading others to the source of the light. I'm believing Dr Goslin will see how much God loves her, He has us on mission to be the light of Christ to her. She is reading Bo's book, and we are praying.

Love ya Bro, I know I left some thoughts lingering, I like to do that to leave room for revelation...

Steve

Dear Akhil!
We met at your LA office for a short time. I was impressed by your
personality and have often thought about you. May Allah bless you with complete health.
Try using coconut oil in your diet. I believe it will help restore some
functions of the brain.

The video is Akhil's journey with ALS.  Painful to see but the faith his family shows is uplifting.

God continues to show his love for us through his people.  Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us, prayed for us, visited Akhil, brought us a meal and served us however God led you to serve.  Continue to follow those urgings from God in serving those who are struggling.
