Corinne, Happy 21st Birthday!

Corinne, Happy birthday! 21, you should be beyond excited because you have now entered into adulthood!

On Father's Day you took me on a stroll down memory lane. I thought you would enjoy hearing the memories of you that I cherish.

It all started at the hospital where I got to cut the cord, remember that? (I had to ask because you remember EVERYTHING!)

Picture
The next few months were a blur, but I remember you sitting in the pumpkin seat. The reason I remember you in your seat is because you would make a sound all the time. It was a sound I'll never forget, it was: "Uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh." You would drive me crazy! Mom would tell me, "You are going to miss that sound!" About twenty years have passed and I must admit I DO NOT! The reason that memory is cherished is because I knew you would fill our home with stories, singing and joy!

Let's keep moving forward to our home in Fenton. Your mom and I designed that home, lived in it for 6 months then moved to Plano, TX.

In our Dallas home you taught me I was out manned and out gunned! I was sitting in the family room and I was watching  TV. You wanted to tell me something and apparently I didn't respond as you wanted so you stabbed me with a pencil. Here is why this is a prized memory: You stab me, I yell in pain, you start crying, and I apologize! Really, good job, I knew you were the chick in charge! No worries about you taking care of yourself.

Next memory: I was going to take you out on a date. Wearing a nice shirt and slacks, I was ready to take my 4 year old Corinne out.

Proud moment for me when you put the brakes on by saying, "Is that what you are wearing?" I had to change and put on a suit which made you smile.

By the way, this was the date when you learned Tobasco Sauce is awesome in New England Clam Chowder.

Picture
It was in the master bedroom closet that I would hoist you and Ashley on top of the center cabinet. Both of you would giggle and play with crayons. You thought it was big fun when I would bring food to you up there, picnic time!

Moving on - Pittsburgh here we come. I remember building the monkey bars and your expression when I put you on top of them to release the fireflies. The look on your face as the fireflies took flight was something that I will have with me forever!

Picture
Oh, do you remember when I put down plywood sheets in the attic and called it the library? I would watch you as you were very meticulous about the order the books were exchanged. You were 6 and you needed to follow a list, wow! I also remember Ashley messing with you by scattering your books just to see your response. I was sure you were going to kill each other! I am pleased to report that I was wrong, you became friends after our second move to Texas.

Picture
I know there are so many more memories that I could write but I'll save them for another day.

Corinne, thinking about our lives made me stop and turn my eyes upwards with thanks to God! I sincerely hope you have a safe, fun, and memorable birthday. When you pillow your head at night, I hope you take time to thank God for the life He has given us!
 Love, Dad

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart.

Just a couple of days ago I came across information on the internet regarding Ahkil's battle with ALS. Am not sure if this note will reach him, but if it does, I want him to know I am thinking about him, and about his family. If it is possible for him to communicate via the internet with me, I would be very pleased to hear from him. I was
shocked to learn about the critical health issues he has been enduring, and want him and his family to know he, Laura, and the girls (young women now) are in my prayers. It has been an encouragement to me to see the examples of continued faith and reliance on God that show through in the few blogs, etc, from
him and Laura that I have come across. The two of them are a
true inspiration!! If this note comes through, I would be very appreciative of any response possible. My wife and I reside in Brentwood, Tn, and although it has been approximately 25 years
since Ahkil and I worked together for Ralston Purina in St. Louis,
I vividly remember Ahkil's intellect, his devotion to his work, and his
readiness to be of assistance to any of his business associates.
One meets many people along life's journey, and while all of them
leave impressions, the positive impressions left by Ahkil have stayed
with me since we first met. I have always thought of him as one of
the most impressive people I have been privileged to know.

The video is Akhil's journey with ALS.  Painful to see but the faith his family shows is uplifting.

God continues to show his love for us through his people.  Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us, prayed for us, visited Akhil, brought us a meal and served us however God led you to serve.  Continue to follow those urgings from God in serving those who are struggling.
