Here's What Happened...

My cough got really bad, so much so that I had to see a pulmonologist.  He took X-rays of my lungs and then he had a difficult conversation with Laura and me.  He told us that my lungs were partially collapsed and full of fluid.  He told us I had only 10 days left to live! That was on the 3rd of December.

He sent us home. We were expecting this news but not so soon. We were preparing for the worst because my cough had turned into pneumonia and that was the end of it.

My neurologist called me at home and told me to go to Providence for a bronchoscopy (deep lung suctioning with a camera involved for precision) meanwhile Laura called everyone in my family and told them the situation.

Laura called her Mom who lives in Florida. My Mom, Dad, Sister and her family all flew in from Dallas to say goodbye. I was in the hospital for one day when they did the procedure.  It helped a little bit but fluid was still in my lungs.  They were expecting me to cough the rest out. On the third night, I was having routine coughing and breathing treatments to help me pass the rest of the junk out of my lungs. At approximately 3 am while having some upper throat suction done after a cough assisting treatment, I had a mucous block in my air way, otherwise known as an occlusion. I started suffocating and they had to perform another bronchoscopy on my lungs to save me. They almost lost me.

It was then that I heard a voice speaking to me. It was God. He said, "You will not die here. You will go home and they will know that I am God."

I survived. I did not die. I went home on the 9th of December. I slowly recovered. By the 15th of December, I was symptom free of pneumonia.

Long story short. I had a wonderful Christmas with my family. I didn't need all those goodbyes because I am still here. There was a reason for me to come home. That reason is my message to you.

Man may have all the facts but only God has the truth. You can choose between facts or the truth.  Choose wisely!

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God."
Psalm 46:10

The video is Akhil's journey with ALS.  Painful to see but the faith his family shows is uplifting.

God continues to show his love for us through his people.  Thank you to everyone who has reached out to us, prayed for us, visited Akhil, brought us a meal and served us however God led you to serve.  Continue to follow those urgings from God in serving those who are struggling.
